History
- 1870 - A “ Plague Depot” was started in this premises under H.E.H. Nizam’s Health Department.
- 1904 – Central Public Health Laboratories established to analyze food, drugs and water.
- 1910 – A “ Vaccine Depot” added with the introduction of Glycerinated Vaccine Lymph [for manufacture of Smallpox vaccine]
- 1913 – Office of the Chemical Examiner shifted to this premises.
- 1941 – The manufacture of Cholera and T.A.B. vaccines started.
- 1949 – The institute’s name was changed to “Central Laboratories” from the earlier “Vaccine Depot – cum – Chemical Examiner Office”.
- 1957 – “ Central Laboratories” upgraded and redesignated as “ Institute of Preventive Medicine ” with Dr.Y.S.Narayana Rao as its first Director. He developed it on the model of King Institute, Guindy.
- 1959 – A new block called the “ Rajendra Prasad Block” containing the Diagnostic and Analytical Wings of Foods, Drugs and Water was built.
- 1961 – The Blood Bank from the Osmania General Hospital was brought to this institute and renamed as “ Central Blood Bank”.
- 1963 –The UNICEF and WHO assisted in the manufacture of Freeze Dried Smallpox Vaccine. Consequent to the eradication of smallpox, the unit was wound up in 1978.
- The institute was recognized as a Post – Graduate Training Center for M.D [Microbiology].
- 1976 – 77: The Anti-Rabic Vaccine manufacturing unit was established. It produces neural tissue vaccine.
- 1977 – 78: The Tetanus Toxoid [TT] manufacturing unit was established.
- 1984 – 85: The diagnostic virology unit came into being.
- 1985 – 86: The diagnostic hepatitis unit formed.
- 1989 - Oral Polio Vaccine Testing Center begins work in Dept., of Virology.
- 1990 – Screening of blood for HIV started.
- 2001 – Screening of donor blood for Hepatitis C started w.e.f. 1st June.
- 2002 – Voluntary Counseling & Testing Center started on 15th March.
- 2004 – DMLT, CCBBT & B.Sc. (MLT) started in the month of August.
- 2006 - Ultra Sound & ECG tests were introduced in the Diagnostic wing.
- 2007 - Modal Blood Bank started with the help of TelanganaSACS.
- 2007 – Online Vaccination Appointment for International Travelers (VAIT) Started.
- 2007 - Implementation of INTRADERMAL route of administration of RABIES VACCINE (IDRV) in Andhra Pradesh.
- 2007 – Online Blood availability at Central Blood Bank started.
- 2008 – Foundation stone laying ceremony for college of Medical Laboratory technology building.
- 2008 – BSQC Lab recognized as National Reference Laboratory by NACO.
- 2009 – Diagnosis of Influenza A H1N1 (RTPCR Technique) started.
- 2010 – Model Blood Bank started with the help of NACO
- 2010– e-India award for "e MedLabs IPM"
- 2011– e-India award for "e MedLabs IPM"
- 2011 – Mobile Blood Bank started with the help of NACO.
- 2012 - NABL Accreditation for BSQC & State Food Lab.
